Jorge Bolet in France
Excerpts from his obituary in Le Monde, 19 October 1990
'Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude, de Franz Liszt, une oeuvre, irrégulière, passablement saint-sulpicienne transfigurée par une science pianistique, une intériorité confondantes. Pour une fois, la partie centrale s'écoutera sans ennui (Decca 411 803-2).
Franz Liszt’s *Bénédiction de Dieu dans la solitude*—an uneven, somewhat sentimental work transfigured by astonishing pianistic mastery and profound inwardness; for once, the central section holds the listener’s attention without a hint of boredom.
César Franck’s *Prélude, Choral et Fugue*—Bolet’s architectural mastery, sense of colour, and polyphonic clarity are at their peak here (Decca 421 714-2).
Unknown in France a decade ago, this Cuban-born pianist owed his recent renown to a handful of recordings made for Decca. He had won the favour of a vast audience, captivated by the aristocratic beauty of a playing style that excelled in the works of Liszt and Chopin
